An Insurance Self-Network Platform (ISNP) is an electronic platform established for conducting insurance e-commerce activities, subject to obtaining permission from IRDA, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority. In today’s era of digitalization, e-commerce is gaining popularity among customers and sellers, with even the insurance industry exploring online platforms to sell their products. In response, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDA) issued guidelines on 9th March 2017 concerning insurance e-commerce.

The primary objective of these guidelines is to standardize rules for insurance e-commerce activities. According to these regulations, those interested in selling insurance online must establish a digital platform, referred to as an Insurance Self-Network Platform (ISNP), and adhere to all specified regulations.

Contrary to misconceptions, these insurance e-commerce guidelines do not open the door for companies like Amazon and Flipkart. The guidelines explicitly state that only individuals registered or recognized by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India can apply for ISNP registration.
